On Saturday, 30 April 2016, three Kempville karate students participated at the Kanazawa Cup in Durban.
Joshinmon Shorin Ryu Karate Do is situated in Piet Retief. The instructor for the Do is Sensei Juan Lista Garcia who is a black belt 4th Dan Joshinmon Shorin Ryu and 3rd Dan Shotokan (SKIF). On Saturday, 30 April 2016, three students from the Do, Rueben Mallanna, Aaliyah Hoosen and Ismail Hoosen took part in the Kanazawa Cup which was a karate competition held in Durban.
The students competed in this competition for the first time to gain some valuable experience. During the competition there were also visitors from Tokyo, Japan. One of the visitors was Sensei Murakami, senior student of the founder and creator of the Joshinmon Shorin Ryu style, Sensei Ikeda. As this was a first competition for the students they didn’t expect much, but were going to gain experience. Yet the students performed extremely well.
Rueben Mallanna took part in the Kata event and well deservedly won a silver medal in his age group. Aaliyah Hoosen also competed in the Kata event where so obtained a bronze medal. The last of the three students Ismail Hoosen also took part in the Kata event. Unfortunately Ismail did not make it past the preliminaries, but was knocked out by another competitor that would later be crowned as the champion. Well done to these students on their well-deserved achievements.
Classes at the Do take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 17:30 to 19:00 and on Saturdays there are classes for kiddies from 09:00 to 10:00. For more information feel free to contact Sensei Juan Lista Garcia on 071 609 3609.
