Horrific sights await many Group 10 residents as they drive out their front gates. According to many of the residents of Group 10, Faber Street has been used as a dumping site for the public’s use.
People are throwing their garbage and disposing of any unwanted items there and this is really becoming an issue. This is attracting flies and is causing a health hazard. “The smell is unbearable when we walk out of our houses,” said one of the residents. Animal carcasses have been dumped as well and the stench of the decaying matter fills the air as one drives up Faber Street.
Numerous pleas have been made to the public to make use of the public services to dispose of waste but this is not being adhered to. Charred remains of waste is a clear indication that some of the dirt had been tried to be disposed of by lighting a fire. This is highly dangerous as the dumping area is surrounded by houses. Upon contacting the local municipality’s waste department, feedback has been received to confirm that the areas will be cleaned up.
An urgent appeal to the public is made to refrain from disposing of your waste illegally and to rather use the designated area which is our local dump site situated on the Pongola N2 Road beyond the old Pony Club. You can either make use of the weekly bin removal services in your area. Our town needs to be maintained by each and everyone of us. It’s our responsibility to conserve nature as well as our surrounding environment. The public is warned that if anyone is found dumping waste, they will definitely be fined or it could even lead to prosecution.
