Apple in Education

For Mlilo School the Apple in Education competition has been a vehicle for teachers and students to creatively explore, using Apple technology in bringing the curriculum to life.

A multitude of schools have entered the competition over the last few years and students were awarded Apple in Education products. A learner from Mlilo School, Sihle Mkhize, entered the iPhotography competition this year and was invited to a prestigeous gala evening in Sandton where the award ceremony took place in October.

Sihle has not only won the national first prize with her still life photograph, but also two second prizes for two other entries – an outstanding achievement for this grade 11 learner. The CEO of Apple in South Africa was so impressed by Sihle Mkhize’s photographs, that he wanted to buy these photographs and another journalist also called to buy one of her photographs. What makes this achievement so special, is that Sihle comes from a rural school while top private schools also enter the competition every year.

She has certainly put Piet Retief and Mlilo School on the map and has won an iphone 5 for her excellent photography. Mlilo Combined School would like to also thank Mr Gerhard Oosthuizen, the ipad facilitator at our school, for all his hard work and effort. We are proud and hope to see more of Sihle’s work in the future.
