The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development conducted community information sessions from 26 to 30 October at various venues throughout Mkhondo.
Community members, residing in different areas, were invited to the sessions on specific days. Residents from areas around Entombe, Ethandakukanya, Chief Mahlobo’s Indigenous Home, Mkhondo Municipal Library and the Yende Indigenous Home/Iswepe were invited to these information sessions. Many Government Departments were represented at the sessions, ready to share information, answer questions and inform about and explain all relevant processes to attendees.
Representatives of Home Affairs, SARS, the Family Advocate, DCSSL, COGTA, Social Development, DOJ&CD, SAPS, Gert Sibande District Municipality and Mkhondo Local Municipality, Legal Aid South Africa, the NPA, Correctional Services, NGO’s CBO’s and FBO’s were all available with expertise to assist members of the community at the information sessions. The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development sponsored meals to attendees at the various halls.
During the session at the Mkhondo Municipal Library on Thursday, 29 October, the meals were donated to Huis Immergroen (Old Age Home) as the session was conducted outdoors and attendees were difficult to distinguish from normal everyday public persons passing by. This was greatly appreciated by the residents and staff of the home, thank you! The sessions were attended well and were very successful. Topics regarding inter alia maintenance, domestic violence, child justice, cross-border travelling, careers in the justice system and many more were covered. Enough reading material and other brochures were available as well. Thank you to all who unselfishly helped to take very important information to the people.
