Oliver Twist – the Musical – Who would ever think that a whole school production of a classical musical could be possible and even more, a primary school production at that!
With anticipation and excitement everyone in the hall waited for the production to start … Visiting pre-schoolers and their teachers, parents, senior citizens and a few other visitors filled the hall for the matinée at Marantha School on Thursday, 1 October. Then the well-known music filled the air and the show began. Mr Bumble and the orphans entered. From the start to the end, it was a wonderful performance!
Simple, but creative and very effective costumes and super choreo- graphy with accompanying good singing and acting made for a very successful performance. Michael Curle’s “Oliver” was sung exceptionally well, congratulations! The children’s singing and acting was very good and it was simply wonderfully enjoy- A whole school production Phumlani and Louis as Oliver able to hear old favourites like “Food, Glorious Food”, “Consider Yourself” and “Pick a Pocket or Two” once again. Luckily everybody in the audience could join in the singing of the grand finale at the end of the show. A great performance, Maranatha!
The learners were exposed to good literature and good music while having the opportunity to take part in a super performance with all that it entails: having fun together, discipline, dressing up, considering one another and so much more! They have certainly gathered lovely memories. It was definitely worth the while to attend your performance. Anyone who did not go and watch the children perform, surely missed out. Congratulations, Mary Rowe and team and every single member off staff and most important, all the learners! You were all superstars!
