N2 claims four lives

Four killed in an accident on the N2 between Mkhondo and Ermelo. On Saturday, 25 May 2019, at around 19:00, a head-on collision between a bakkie and a sedan claimed the lives of four people.

Three passangers and the driver of the sedan all died on the scene due to the impact of the crash. The driver of the bakkie received treatment for serious injuries at a Hospital in Ermelo. The accident is being investigated by the SAPS along with the Engineering team from The Road Safety Department.

The Department of Community, Safety, Security and Liaison urges motorists to use the roads with caution to avoid any further loss of life, since several serious accidents have been reported in the province from Friday, 24 May 2019.

The information was supplied to the Excelsior News by the Local Emergency Services. According to them on Tuesday, 21 May, at approximately 15:00, a white Hyundai i10 was travelling from Pongola in the direction of Piet Retief. The driver of the Hyundai lost control and overturned the vehicle. The driver was alone in the car and uninjured. On Saturday, 25 May, at 18:10 the Emergency Services of Mkhondo reacted to an accident on the N2 road towards Ermelo. According to the accident report a maroon Nissan Sentra travelled behind a truck in the direction of Ermelo.

A red Volkswagen Polo, travelling in the direction of Piet Retief, came past the truck and Nissan. The Nissan Sentra attempted to overtake the truck before the Polo completely passed and the Polo was hit by the Nissan on the driver’s side. According to the driver of a white Kia Picanto, he tried to avoid a buck that was in the road, he lost control and overturned the vehicle. The driver and four passengers were all slightly injured. According to the accident report from the Emergency Services, on Monday, 27 May, a white Toyota VX Land Cruiser en route from Wakkerstroom in the direction of Piet Retief, lost control and overturned.
