At the end of 2018, nine individuals attended an AgriSETA leadership training programme, which was held in Driefontein, near Piet Retief.

This AgriSETA leadership programme commenced on 10 April 2018 and will come to an end in March 2019. The aim of this agricultural engineering programme is to encourage citizens to embark on the development of industries in the country to enhance employment opportunities as well as stimulate the economy of Piet Retief. The programme also aims to develop the production skills of participants which in turn will increase productivity on farms.

During the programme, learners were taught how to re-condition agricultural equipment from scrap to new tractors and other implements. This endeavor seemed to have been very successful. AgriSETA funded Senzakonke Primary Cooperatieve in Driefontein for this training programme and the farmers in the surrounding villages benefitted as their farming equipment was repaired free of charge.

Shontech Skills Development and Training’s Mr Exodus Shongwe, tutored the students and they were grateful for the skills they learnt during the course. Readers will be kept up to date in future editions of the Excelsior News as the leadership training programme progresses.
