The Eisteddfod Mpumalanga & Mozambique Prize-giving was held on 20 October 2018 in Nelspruit.
The Eisteddfod National event, the Young Performers Awards, takes place next year from February to May in Johannesburg. All learners who received a Diploma in the regional competitions automatically qualify to perform.
After all the regional events in each province were concluded, all the marks were combined to find the item and category winners of each province. The item winner certificate is awarded to a learner or group that performed the best in their grade’s item. The category winner medal is awarded to the learner or group that ranked the highest in the whole category division for that phase.
Three high school learners from our region received awards. From Piet Retief High School, Elné Labuschagne was the Public Speaking item winner, Grade 11 and Lize de Beer was the Poetry Recital item winner, Grade 8.
Timon Dedekind, a Grade 8 homeschooler from Paulpietersburg, was the category medal winner for his Recital, Piano from the Romantic Period. Maranatha School’s grade 3 class was the item winner in the Choral Verse division. Russel Musarurwa was the Narrative Poetry item winner in Grade 2.
