Two amputees are currently walking for five months, from Pretoria to Durban, to Cape Town, over 3 000 km, in order to raise funds and awareness for and about amputees.
Paul Steyn and Mike Minnie started their epic 3 000 km journey on Tuesday, 26 June in Pretoria and headed to the Nelspruit area. From there, they walked to Ermelo and on Saturday, 28 July, they reached Piet Retief.
They were welcomed by Mrs I. Brussow and her team from the DA at the Waterside Lodge where they had a short meeting and enjoyed lunch together. They spent the rest of the weekend in Piet Retief as they do not walk on Sundays and visited Piet Retief High School on Monday morning, 30 July.
They headed to Pongola whereafter they will be walking to Richards Bay, then Durban and then Cape Town, where they plan to finish the journey on Monday, 26 November. You can also SMS “walk” to 38021 to donate R10-00. For some of us, walking one kilometre with both legs can sometimes feel like an uphill battle and we can all learn something about being thankful from these two remarkable walkers, who are attempting to walk a whole 3 000 km!
