Mahamba Road to be repaired

Mahamba Road
One of the potholes in the side of the road on the R543 between Piet Retief and the Mahamba Border Post

A resident of Mkhondo contacted the Excelsior News at the end of March 2018 regarding the state of the Mahamba Road (R543) and the Mpumalanga Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport was contacted.

Three weeks after the initial e-mail was sent, a response was received, stating that the department is aware of the problem on Mahamba Road. Major maintenance was done on the road in the 2015/2016 financial year. In the 2017/2018 financial year, routine maintenance was carried out on this road.

The grass was cut, drains cleaned and maintenance was done to the shoulders of the road. There are plans to conduct major maintenance on the R543 again in this current financial year. The maintenance will include pothole patching on Mahamba Road, selective resealing of some sections of the road and shoulder repairs.

Hopefully the repairs will be done to such a standard that motorists who use this road do not face the same problems again next year. The community will be informed once the repairs commence and when it is also completed.
