On Tuesday, 21 November, the preschool and junior phase learners from Alpha and Omega School entertained the community of Piet Retief with their play, “Shrek, the untold story”.
The staff of Alpha and Omega were humbled by the large number of people who came to see the show. The audience was welcomed by the school principal, Mr Musoke, before the play began. The play told the story of the ogre, Shrek, his wife, Fiona, and their children as they journeyed through a jungle, in search of true happiness.
Along the way, they met many fairy tale creatures and cartoon characters as they found the keys to happiness. The keys represent the school’s values: love, hope, courage, joy, forgiveness, respect, a positive attitude, peace, patience and obedience. The highlight of the evening was the different classic fairy tales, such as Cinderella and Snow White, which were retold.
The audience thoroughly enjoyed the play. The learners would like to thank each and every person who attended the evening. They were amazed at the support they received. The school specifically wants to thank the following individuals for their support: Mrs Pikkie Ray for the beautiful costumes, TWK Agri for the plants, Mrs Bella du Plessis for the lights and décor, Mr Sheldon Hallis for the smoke machine, Mr Phillip Riekert for painting the décor, Miss Leandri van der Merwe and her team for supervising and organizing the learners and Mr Andrew Masuku for opening with prayer and assisting with the sound.
