Depending on prevailing circumstances and how such circumstances are approached, it can either be said that it is only the end of March or that is already the end of March.

It is only the end of March and the Easter Holidays have come and almost gone. It is already the end of March and it is a mere 8 weeks to the 2016 Comrades Marathon. Let us, however, first take a few steps back. On 12 March, while some were gutsing it out “om die dam” and others were enjoying a long distance club run to the farm Warmbad, Dr Herbert Nxumalo excelled when he completed all three legs of the Kosmos 3-in-1 in the Secunda area.

He accounted for the marathon (42, 2 kilometres), followed by the half marathon (21,1 kilometres) and followed by the 10 kilometre race in respectively 4:57, 2:38 and 1:13. His wife, Mary, proudly completed the 10 kilometre race. Laat waai, Assegaai!

On 20 March Laiken Pretorius added another title to her CV when she won the ladies’ marathon during the Willem Boshoff Memorial at Natal Spa (from the resort out towards Vryheid and back) in 3:39.

Werner Peters followed on her heels in another 3:39 while Kobus Stapelberg, Chris Stander and Musa Hlatswayo laboured home in 4:37. Roelof Nienhaber (1:40), Jan van Vreden (1:53), Leana Aslett (1:53) and Marilize Stander (2:01) opted for the relative comfort of the half marathon.
